In my last post, I talked about the problems of being misidentified by a major anti ex-gay activist website as being "an ex-gay." The specific language they used on the site that was then linked back to Stoney Moss was, "An ex-gay blogger writes that she is a "real bisexual." I complained, not wanting to be associated the ex-gay movement or any of it's parent associations.
I'm very pleased to report that the good people over at Truth Wins Out thoughtfully corrected their error immediately, and I am no longer identified as an ex-gay. The link is still there, with this language (I'll reprint it here in case it gets deleted someday):
Corrected: An open lesbian becomes engaged to a man. Confession of an ex-gay, perhaps? No, just a woman who’s honest about her sexual flexibility, the inadequacy of labels, and possible bisexuality.
It's the headline An open lesbian becomes engaged to a man that gets me. Somehow, being identified in a single sentence like that (as if it is news) is weirder than being misidentified as a member of a hate-cult. Not worse by any means, but stranger.
Thank you to Mike over at Truth Wins Out for rapidly correcting this error, and for printing my engagement announcement on the blog. Also, I'd like to thank my annonyomous new friend, who has been a member of an ex-gay ministry for over 5 years. He has reminded me that ex-gays are as diverse as the rest of us, and you can't assume anything about a person by just knowing his affiliation with one or two groups. Just as though every gay person is different, and does not fit a mold, so too does everybody who identifies as ex-gay. Thank you for opening a conversation with me; it's nice to really hear how life is on the other side of the ideological fence in an open and respectful manner.

Hi Deb,
It is strange how total strangers can lift something off your blog and twist it however they want. Glad you got it straightened out, but why should it matter in the first place? You can live your life however you want.
I agree with Deb, why should it matter in the first place (scratching head)?
