Deb posted her Best of List, using a popular vote method- picking the posts with the most comments. I've decided to use a slightly more biased approach, and I'm picking the posts that I think are the most entertaining, compelling, emotionally honest, or gripping. Also, departing from Deb's approach, I've decided to pick my favorite in each of seven categories. In no particular order, here are 7 of the best of what Stoney Moss had to offer over the last year:
Best Politics Post
Finkelstein
Best Meme Post
Tanzanian Poetry
This is also one of our most "googled" posts
Best Sociology Post
How not to change the world
Best American Sentence Post
Sorry- couldn't pick just one, so selected one from Deb, and one from me:
Dripping Faucet
Flying
Best Creative Non Fiction
They Smelled the Water
Best Photography Post
Tents
Best Poetry Post
This was definitely the hardest category to select, as both Deb and I have written a lot of unique, compelling, and sometimes beautiful poetry. It was hard for me to pick my favorite of Deb's poems, but this one is among my very favorites:
Straddling an open window
Here's to another year of great blogging!

Dude!
I love your list. It is better all the way around. It shows the complexity of the things we blog about, it makes choices about content quality, not just allowing the happenchance of popular prompt-responses (to the wonderful poetry & writing prompt sites we frequent) to take honors when other post might actually be better.
I stick by "10 lies", though. That was powerful writing!
And Straddling was my favorite poem of mine, too. Thanks for that "vote".
I love blogging with you. You bring so much ON.
Is Straddling truly your favorite poem??? Wow- I knew we both had good taste, but I'm surprised we are that close.
Sorry I missed you on Thursday. I ended up with the Kindleys...
I'm going to see Colson Whitehead on Tuesday..I'll post a report on the blog.
I'll be there, too. Yet another commonality!
Seriously!?!? We should both write a review- a she said/she said type thing. :) Have you read him? I'm a dork- I haven't read him, but I've read ABOUT him and he seems amazing. Maybe I can get a chance to read one of his books before school starts..:)
Great list...
Thank you. I'm pretty new to Stoney Moss and this was such a lovely tour. Now on to Deb's!
